Story & Atmosphere
Welcome to Ikan Bakar Pak Tarjo, a gem nestled in the vibrant heart of South Jakarta, specifically at Jl. Tentara Pelajar No.22. This popular eatery specializes in grilled fish, offering a delightful experience that showcases the rich culinary traditions of Indonesia. With its modest yet inviting atmosphere, it has successfully captured the essence of hawker-style dining—affordable, hearty, and undeniably delicious.
As you step into Ikan Bakar Pak Tarjo, you are greeted by a cooler filled with an impressive selection of fresh fish. Customers can pick their desired catch, ensuring an experience that emphasizes freshness and quality, even though the seafood isn’t live. The baronang, one of the most recommended fish options, is available at an impressive price that often feeds more than one, making it a fantastic choice for gatherings. Many patrons, such as Risiana Limuria, have lauded the taste, confirming that it is not just about affordability but also about savoring high-quality flavors.
The restaurant’s menu goes beyond just fish; it also includes popular sides like tahu bakso (meatball tofu) and cah kangkung (stir-fried water spinach), which complement the main dishes wonderfully. According to miasperanza, these additions bring a delightful balance to the meal, making it a recommendable experience for anyone eager to explore Indonesian hawker food.
What stands out at Ikan Bakar Pak Tarjo is the array of sambals offered alongside each dish, including the tantalizing mango sambal and classic red chili sambal. These spicy accompaniments elevate the grilled fish, creating a comforting and traditional meal that warms the heart. Customers like Rowena Suryobroto appreciate the opportunity to enjoy diverse fish options paired with fresh sambal and vegetables, enhancing the dining experience with authentic flavors.
However, a note for diners: due to the grilling process, the aroma of smoke can linger on your clothes, creating a sense of authenticity in this traditional dining setting. As noted by Mo's, the delicious taste of the grilled fish makes this minor inconvenience worth it.
In conclusion, Ikan Bakar Pak Tarjo isn’t just about meals; it’s a celebration of Indonesia’s rich culinary history and a place where the joy of food brings people together. With its focus on fresh ingredients, affordability, and traditional flavors, it promises an unforgettable dining experience that will leave your taste buds dancing.

“ It's not live seafood, but the fishes are fresh enough. The price is also ok, not too pricey. So considering all that, and how this is a hawker food, I think this is quite recommended. I also like their taho baso (meatball tofu), which is quite similar with the famous taho baso Semarang. The kangkung is just ok. ”
“ Fresh and diverse fish, great taste, pick yourself a fish. Great sambal and veggies too. Very traditional, but comforting ”
“ Pretty good and affordable place for having grilled fish. I ordered ikan baronang for Rp 60.000 that could feed 2-3 people. The taste was pretty good. You can choose which fish you want from the cooling box in front of the restaurant. The fish is priced based on its size. The portion of cah kangkung was also pretty big for Rp 10.000. There are also tahu bakso and otak-otak served on your table and you pay based on the quantity you eat. The interior of the place looked a little old and shabby. ”
“ the place is divided into two parts one is smaller than the other. we ordeered baronang and kue fish. the fishes is moderately fresh. not too pricey. they served it along with lalapan and two kind of sambals, mango sambal and red chilli sambal. the lalapan is not too fresh. have no parking space, so we have to parked at the side of the road. the fishes not seasoned enough. the coconut is nice. the meatball tofu is average. overall, this restaurant is just ok. ”
“ Local grilled fish! Every menu will come with free raw vegetable and sambal. Affordable price but everything taste delicious. Oh, a lil' note..when you eat in here your clothes etc will smell afterward because of the grill smoke. ”
